Report from the Construction Site: January 2025

Each passing month brings new stages of implementation, and the progress is becoming increasingly visible. In January, the construction teams focused on the track, tunnel, and technical infrastructure.

Every new transportation route in Krakow is very important for the residents. The tram to Mistrzejowice is an extremely significant project because it connects a large number of residents from Nowa Huta and Mistrzejowice with the city center. It is being carried out over a 4.5 km stretch, which I would say is the living tissue of the city. All of this makes it a socially sensitive and delicate task. This investment should shorten the travel time to Krakow by 12 minutes for every traveler – said Mr. Stanisław Kracik, Deputy Mayor of Krakow.

We invite you to watch the report from the construction site!

This is what the KST IV line – Tram to Mistrzejowice will look like. We present visualizations

Work is underway on the fourth stage of the Krakow Fast Tram project. The new line will connect Mistrzejowice with the intersection of Mogilska, Lema, Meissner streets, and John Paul II Avenue, improving transport in the northeastern part of the city.

This is the first large-scale transport investment in Poland implemented in the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Part of the route will run through a tunnel, with the deepest point being the two-level Rondo Polsad station.

The presented visualizations are the result of close cooperation with the City and residents. Regular Construction Councils, held every two weeks, allowed for ongoing improvements, which we can present today.

We encourage you to view the visualizations and follow the progress of the project!

Summary of work in July

According to statistics, July is the rainiest month of the year. Despite heavy rainfall, our work progressed continuously. What has been achieved and what awaits us in the near future?

July was mainly marked by works related to the reconstruction of broadly understood networks. At the beginning of the month, we started heating up the heating pipes near the Wieczysta Sports Club. This involved the continuous operation of the generator. This was required by technological processes to ensure the highest possible quality of workmanship and safety of operation.

Works related to the heat pipeline were also undertaken at Łąkowa Street, Janickiego Street and the western part of Meissnera Street. Although the works in this area were planned for a later date, we decided to start them now to complete the works related to the heating network before the heating season. The decision was made out of concern for the comfort of the residents.More

At the same time, the reconstruction of the power grid at Dobrego Pasterza Street began and the rainwater drainage system at Jancarza Street was reconnected.More

On July 25, a meeting was held as part of the social dialogue, where residents, city and district councillors as well as ZDMK, MIR, ZTP together with the Private Partner could undertake a substantive discussion, m.in. on the fire exit, located in the area of blocks of flats at 4-6 Meissnera Street. A request was made to liquidate the bus bay on Mogilska Street and widen the tram platform. A postulate was made to change the lane into parking spaces on Meissnera Street on the section from Łąkowa Street to Ugorek Street.

Thanks to the commitment of all parties, we strive to create optimal solutions together!More

However – in the context of the progress of construction works – the greatest success of this month was the completion of concreting of ceilings at the Polsadu Roundabout station and under the flyover on the southern side – from Młyńska Street. This is another complicated technical challenge during the construction of the tram line to Mistrzejowice. Due to the limited space for construction machinery, the work required a very high degree of precision. In addition to engineers, the safety of the facility was supervised by a special geodetic monitoring system. It is a set of several dozen measuring devices that checked the condition of the object with an accuracy of 0.1 mm for 24 hours, in real time. At the same time, due to the summer heat, most of the concrete works, which lasted more than 5 hours, took place at night.

To the north of the flyover, insulation works of the floor slab are underway, which will enable the restoration of the original roadway layout and the commencement of the sinking of diaphragm walls in the place of the temporary roadway and pedestrian crossing. This will make it possible to connect the existing tunnel sections. The methodology of staging works is crucial in dense urban development, allowing for efficient project implementation and minimizing nuisance to residents.

July brought significant progress in the work on the city’s infrastructure. Significant works were completed on the reconstruction of the heating and power network, as well as the concreting of the ceilings on the southern side of the Polsadu Roundabout station, which was a key stage in the construction of the tram line to Mistrzejowice.  Cooperation with residents and various institutions allows for continuous adaptation of plans to the needs of the community, while maintaining high quality and safety of the implemented projects.

Organization of bicycle and pedestrian traffic

In connection with the commencement of the next stage of construction as part of the Tram to Mistrzejowice project, from 17 July changes will be made to pedestrian and bicycle routes in the area of Meissnera, Młyńska and Dobrego Pasterza streets.

Along the eastern part of Meissnera Street, on the section from Sttaniec Street to the Młyńskiego roundabout, a separate pavement and a bicycle path will be transformed into a common pedestrian and bicycle route.

Between the Młyńskie roundabout and the Polsadu roundabout, the possibility of pedestrian traffic will be maintained, and bicycle traffic will be redirected by a detour in general traffic from Pilotów Street to Bora-Komorowskiego Avenue.

On the south-western side of the flyover, a bicycle crossing and a pedestrian crossing will be restored (access only to the construction site). The crossing will allow cyclists to join the existing bicycle path on the western side of the flyover.

Along the northern part of Dobrego Pasterza Street, on the section from the Barei roundabout to Aliny Street, a separate pavement and a bicycle path will be transformed into a common pedestrian and bicycle route.

The new traffic organization will be introduced on July 17, from 7.00 a.m.
