Over the past few weeks, following the completion of the reconstruction of underground infrastructure that conflicted with the road network, we carried out extensive road works as part of the construction of the Tram to Mistrzejowice project. We are gradually opening successive elements of the infrastructure, restoring traffic on additional road sections and making new sidewalks and bicycle paths available for use.
As announced, by the end of June road traffic was restored in its final configuration. This means that vehicles can now travel along the roads’ permanent alignment, significantly improving traffic flow in this part of the city. Until the final traffic organization is implemented and traffic lights at individual intersections are activated, traffic on Meissnera, Młyńska, Pilotów, and Lublańska Streets will operate with one lane in each direction.
The main portion of the roadworks has already been completed. During the summer holiday period, finishing works will continue, along with the implementation of the permanent traffic organization and the completion of inspections and acceptance procedures. Due to additional works that arose during contract execution (introduced through Compensation Events and Change Orders), some activities will be carried out over the coming weeks. These include the installation of wearing courses and finishing works related to sidewalks, curbs, and landscaping around the roadways. Some of these works can only be performed now, following the recent traffic reorganization.
Summary of Works Completed in Recent Weeks
Over the past few weeks, we completed a wide range of roadworks. Dobrego Pasterza Street underwent a comprehensive reconstruction on the section between Barei Roundabout and St. John the Baptist Church. The lower structural layers of the roadway were replaced, the subgrade was strengthened, and new asphalt layers were installed. On 11 May, this section of the street was reopened to residents. Two days later, on 13 May, we reinstated roundabout traffic at Polsadu Roundabout.
Major changes were also implemented at Młyńskie Roundabout, where we completed pavement works in the south-eastern part of the junction and opened the second carriageway of Pilotów Street. Circular traffic at the roundabout was restored on 15 May.
Throughout May, paving works were carried out simultaneously at several locations. On Meissnera Street, additional pavement layers were installed, while asphalt works at the junctions with Łąkowa, Ugorek, and Pszona Streets enabled us to reopen the eastern carriageway of Meissnera Street on 22 May. On the same day, Młyńska Boczna Street was also reopened. At the same time, on a section of Bohomolca and Jancarza Streets between Oświecenia Estate and Marchołta Street, we reconstructed the entire pavement structure, including the asphalt surface on the central carriageway.
The scope of work on the eastern carriageway of Młyńska Street, which was opened to traffic on 20 June, was even more extensive. Following the reconstruction of the stormwater and sanitary sewer systems, we strengthened the subgrade and installed a frost-protection layer, a mechanically stabilized crushed aggregate base course, an asphalt base layer, a binder course, and, over a significant length of the roadway, the final wearing course.
We also worked on pedestrian and cycling infrastructure. On Meissnera Street, we prepared the pavement structure for a bicycle path and carried out asphalt paving works. At the end of May, we opened the sidewalk connecting Jana Pawła II Avenue with Ugorek Street, as well as the bicycle path running from Łąkowa Street to Młyńskie Roundabout. In addition, we installed acoustic screen infill panels along Meissnera Street, Jana Pawła II Avenue, and in the vicinity of Polsadu Roundabout.
We would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding. We recognize that an investment project of this scale brings inconveniences to the local community, and we are making every effort to complete the remaining works as quickly as possible and deliver fully functional and safe infrastructure for everyone to use.
